poetry post

I've been getting back into reading poetry lately and I'd like to start sharing some old favorites and some new ones as well. Poetry is such an intimate form of expression and it's so subjective. I love how so much can be said with so little. This week I have been thinking about how much we truly need each other. Yes, I absolutely think you can be happy by yourself but there is nothing more authentic and satisfying than connecting with another human being.

No man is an island,
Entire of itself,
Every man is a piece of the continent,
A part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less.
As well as if a promontory were.
As well as if a manor of thy friend's
Or of thine own were:
Any man's death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind,
And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
It tolls for thee.

John Donne
